Lichtjesroute was created to celebrate the liberation of Eindhoven after the Second World War on September 18th, when a parade is held. Initially residents were requested to light a candle in their house for a couple of hours each day from 18th of September to 2nd Sunday of October. Slowly, it turned into routes of lights, where several places join in to light their areas creating a route of lights. Now, the route is 25 km long and is very popular amongst kids and families who travel on this route admiring the different themed frames which are lighted.
